FYI Parents and Campers,
THRoW: This week's THRoW is building up to story writing and ONLY INVOLVES SOLVING THE 4
PROBLES given. No need to write a story. I want students to get into the habit first of solving a problem before tackling an entire story.
Next week, however, we should be good to go to write a short story from a prompt I give.

Swim to Survive Video
These skills are life saving and therefore very important for your child to know. There is no need to be worried about swimming in a pool. Lifeguards will assess your child during the first lesson to see if they require a life preserver or not. If your child is ABLE to swim, I would encourage them NOT to request a life preserver. If you are given one on Day 1, you must wear it for the following 2 swim dates as well.
I will be informing students all about this program today and tomorrow with videos and Q&A period to satisfy any concerns or questions students might have. This is actually a very fun and exciting 3 experience to the Windsor Aquatic Centre and I am SURE your child will be glad they were a part of it!
Attendance is mandatory. Buses will leave St. Chris promptly at 11:55. If you usually have your child come home for lunch, please remember to send them with a lunch on these dates: May 1, 8th, and 15th.
Parents are welcome to attend if they are able to provide their own transportation to and from the Aquatic Centre. Students are to travel WITH THE CLASS ON THE BUS.

Ok, Campers and Parents, it's back to business as usual with a glorious FULL week of school again! I'm SO excited!
Also, this week marks the beginning of May - which hopefully means that true typical Spring weather will soon be here for good!
THRoW: Great job everyone on your THRoW last week! Everyone did a terrific job of writing compare and contrast paragraphs! We finally get to start digging in to story writing! Be on the lookout this week for THRoW full of imagination and creativity! Students will be given a story writing prompt! Have fun with this! Encourage your child to have fun with this but try to stay within the limit of the length given. The only information given to students is to include ...
Beginning - First paragraph should introduce the characters and setting.
Middle - Second paragraph should present a problem.
End - Final paragraph should solve the problem and end the story
Math: We continue to learn about slides (translations), turns (rotations) and flips (reflections) as we explore transformational geometry! We should be able to wrap up this unit by the end of this week with our test being on Friday! I will send home the duo tangs for review Wednesday and Thursday.
That's all for now,
Counsellor Wilson

Hello Parents and Campers!
I hope everyone had a blessed Easter Weekend filled with quality family time!
This short week...
THRoW - Students have been learning about how to write a compare and contrast paragraph. Much like a stoplight paragraph, it has a topic sentence that introduces the two things that are being compared and contrasted.
Sentence 1 - Topic Sentence
Sentence 2 and 3 - Similarities
Sentence 4 and 5 - Differences
Sentence 6 - Closing Sentence
The topic for this THRoW is to compare and contrast 2 seasons in Ontario. Try to encourage your child to come up with a really solid venn diagram with interesting similarities and differences. Stay away from obvious comparisons. I can't wait to read them this Friday!
That's all for now,
Counsellor Wilson
SECRET QUESTION:

This will be a short couple of weeks as this week we have Good Friday off and Monday next week is Easter Monday! So, let's get down to business and get a lot done before our Easter break!
We are sad to say, but Miss Holland's time with Camp Wilson will be ending on Wednesday. We wish her all the best in her future as a teacher! She has done a tremendous amount of work to be prepared over these past few weeks and our campers have benefited from her creative and engaging approach to teaching! We will miss you, Miss Holland - thank you and good luck!
HOMEWORK: This week, there will be NO THRoW this short week, so instead, please ensure your child reviews for Social Studies tonight and Math on Tuesday.
Math: Test on Wednesday on Money.
Please review Monday and Tuesday.
Social Studies: Quiz on Tuesday on the information learned up to this point in the unit. Please review with your child tonight using the green Social Studies duo tang for half an hour to prepare. Special focus should be on the many ways the First Nations helped the Early Settlers when they first arrived to the new land in Upper Canada.
As a fun little activity, students will be invited to try a taste "Pemmican" - Buffalo Meat that the First Nations used to pack to go on long hunting excursions. Ask your child how Pemmican was made. They should be able to give a step by step procedure on how to make this tasty and nutritious treat! I wonder is this REALLY IS Pemmican, or maybe it's something we commonly eat today that is pretty close to it!
All I know is that if my campers don't eat it, I WILL! Mmmmmmm!
That's all for now parents and campers!

Happy April 8th!
What a beautiful weekend we were able to enjoy! I am certainly looking forward to more of this Spring weather!
Today, students began practising proper technique for long jump in physical education class! We learned about running at full speed and carefully taking off on one foot from the launch line, using our two arms to propel us forward and landing (falling forward). We will continue to practise this as well as ball throw! Stay tuned!
THRoW: Great job on the two different factual paragraphs over the past two weeks! This week, we are back to our usual Reading Response THRoW. Please encourage your child to use specific examples from the text to support their answers.
More to come soon!

Parents and Campers,
To clarify, this week's THRoW is another factual paragraph on either a person or an animal. I explained this to my campers that if they did a person last week, this week is going to be about an animal and vice versa. I wanted students to get another chance at a factual paragraph after reading my feedback on their first one. So, there is nothing in their THRoW but lined paper for them to write their factual paragraph on. If you choose to type it and print it out to be added to the THRoW book, great! Be sure to read my feedback before beginning the new one.
On my blog, you will find a detailed description of what a factual paragraph should look. Students were give class time each week on Monday to research each topic on the chromebooks.
