Hello Parents and Campers!

Just a quick note to remind students to come dressed in black either today, tomorrow or Friday so I can snap off a quick photo for our Big Poetry Cafe event coming up next week!  Students are asked to come in a black shirt and bring any other props such as sunglasses, a scarf, or anything else that might make them fit the stereotype of a poet!

Thanks in advance!

Dear Parents and Campers,

This week, students MUST LEARN their two or three poems for our Poetry Cafe BY HEART.  Ask your child to practise with you all this week so that beginning next week we can do full rehearsals for our BIG SHOW!

FAVOUR:  Please send in your child on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday wearing a black shirt and a pair of sunglasses. I will be taking photos of our celebrity poets to be posted up in our Cafe next week.  Any black shirt will do.  Scarves, sunglasses, or any props are optional.  Thank you!

I promise you, this will be a performance you wont' soon forget!

Disappointed...

I'm sad to say that the Social Studies presentations on the whole, were WAY below my expectations.  Students were told to spend time over the weekend practising a short oral presentation on something they learned in our unit on First Nations and Early Settlers.  I send home the Social Studies duo tang and completed presentation outline to get them started.  Many came unprepared and as a result, did not score well on this end-of-the-unit assessment.  I expected to hear 5-6 detailed facts learned in the unit sandwiched in between a clear opening and closing.
I will be reassigning this presentation to certain students tomorrow to be redone on Thursday.  I expect it to be done to a much higher standard.  I set achievable expectations for all students and know that each of them are capable of a greater effort.  No books will be allowed at the front to read from, use cue cards with limited prompts on it.

Thank you for your support!

SECRET QUESTION:
Who delivered an outstanding presentation today on Longhouses?

Parents and Campers,

I am still waiting on several black pouches to be returned.  You can keep your reading log in the front pocket of your agenda until June 20th if you are in the process of reading the goal of 3000 minutes.  I am going to ask that you read books from home so that I can start replenishing my library with all of my borrowed books.  Please have your child check his/her room, under the bed, or in any other area that some of my library books might have been left.  I really appreciate your help in this.  This year, my library is exceptionally depleted - I'm hoping that it's because many of my books have yet to be returned.  Thank you!  Thank you to those students who have already returned their pouches.  So far, I have 7/21 back!
