Disappointed...
I'm sad to say that the Social Studies presentations on the whole, were WAY below my expectations. Students were told to spend time over the weekend practising a short oral presentation on something they learned in our unit on First Nations and Early Settlers. I send home the Social Studies duo tang and completed presentation outline to get them started. Many came unprepared and as a result, did not score well on this end-of-the-unit assessment. I expected to hear 5-6 detailed facts learned in the unit sandwiched in between a clear opening and closing.
I will be reassigning this presentation to certain students tomorrow to be redone on Thursday. I expect it to be done to a much higher standard. I set achievable expectations for all students and know that each of them are capable of a greater effort. No books will be allowed at the front to read from, use cue cards with limited prompts on it.
Thank you for your support!
